Surface Water Allocations using recycled water

Environmental allocation of recycled water directly to waterways for the benefit of the environment happens at many inland wastewater treatment plants across Australia. Historically, the planning and practice of environmental allocation of recycled water to surface water bodies has been incidential and in many cases over the peak of summer the majority of water in some surface waters is recycled water. However, with current demands on water supplies in some parts of Australia the managed environmental allocation of recycled water is occuring and tradeoffs between water uses must be made.
